There is no cure for polio, and when vaccination rates drop, we risk a resurgence of paralysis, lifelong disabilities, and deaths. The scientific consensus is clear."

"Moving away from routine immunizations, which involve crucial discussions between clinicians and patients, does not enhance freedom; it fosters suffering," she explained. Milhoan's comments have further eroded the trust and relevance of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and federal vaccine policy within the medical community and states. According to a KFF policy brief, an alarming 27 states and Washington, DC, have already announced their intention to disregard the current CDC vaccine recommendations, which Kennedy drastically overhauled earlier this month without consulting the ACIP. Instead, most states are relying on previous recommendations or those made within their states or by respected medical organizations.
In response to this growing concern, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released its 2026 update to the childhood and adolescent vaccine schedule on Monday. This schedule has been widely embraced by pediatricians and endorsed by 12 other reputable medical organizations, including the AMA, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
The AAP's updated recommendations largely align with last year's schedule but significantly differ from the CDC's, which the AAP believes "deviates from longstanding medical evidence and no longer offers the optimal approach to preventing childhood illnesses."
