Is it a powerful powerhouse or a budget-friendly disappointment?
The Moto G Power (2026) has arrived, boasting a clean Android 16 OS and Motorola's unique Hello UI. But here's where it gets controversial: despite its name, this device might not pack the punch you'd expect.
Motorola promises just two OS updates and three years of security patches, which is a bit behind the curve, even for a budget phone. All the customization options are housed in the Moto app, offering a neat and organized experience.
The Hello UI and Moto app bring an array of features, including Smart Connect, which allows seamless connectivity to PCs, tablets, and displays. However, there's a catch: no direct video output over USB Alt mode.
AI: Motorola's Unique Approach
Moto takes a different approach to AI, offering multiple AI models on a single device. Interestingly, the Moto AI seen on the Edge series is absent here, likely due to hardware limitations. Despite this, the Moto G Power (2026) comes pre-installed with Google's Gemini and Circle to search, along with Copilot and Perplexity.
But here's the twist: unlike the Edge series, there's no dedicated AI button, and you can't assign an AI assistant to the double-tap gesture.
AI Features Missing?
Some AI-driven Moto features, like Catch me up, Image Studio, and Playlist Studio, are notably absent. However, the device does offer a range of customizable gestures, including Quick Launch with a double-tap on the back.
Motorola's UI also provides unique physical shortcuts, like the karate chop for the flashlight and a quick wrist twist to start the camera.
Performance: A Disappointing Irony
Ironically, the Moto G Power (2026) lives up to its name only in its 'Power' moniker, as it's not particularly powerful. It's powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 6300 chipset, a modern 6nm process, but lacking in performance.
The CPU consists of two Cortex-A76 cores up to 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores up to 2.0 GHz, paired with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. In terms of memory, it offers 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, with a microSD expansion slot.
Unfortunately, this is the exact same hardware setup as the Moto G Power (2025), offering no performance upgrade. As a result, it sits at the bottom of performance charts.
In practical terms, the experience is less than stellar, with stutters and slowdowns even with its light UI.
Thermal Throttling: A Silver Lining?
The Mediatek Dimensity 6300 may lack power, but it generates minimal heat. Moto's thermal solution handles this well, resulting in virtually no thermal throttling. The phone remains comfortably cool to hold, even under torture testing.
