A 20-year-old man's life was tragically cut short in a collision between a van and a recovery lorry on the A9 in the Highlands. The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway near Dalnaspidal, approximately 2.5 miles south of Dalwhinnie, at around 11:50 am on Friday. The white Mercedes Sprinter van and the recovery lorry were involved in the crash. The young man, who was a passenger in the van, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 52-year-old male driver of the van was assessed by ambulance crews for minor injuries. Thankfully, no one else was injured. The A9 was closed for over nine hours during the investigation, which reopened at around 9 pm. Sergeant Mike Guild from the Tayside Road Policing Unit expressed his condolences to the deceased's family and friends, urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact the authorities. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the potential consequences of accidents involving heavy vehicles. It's a reminder that even in the quiet Highlands, the impact of such incidents can be devastating. As the investigation continues, the community is left to grapple with the loss of a young life and the questions that remain unanswered.
